Why a carrier-only report is often not enough
Calling your carrier is still the right move. It is not always the whole story.
- Networks do not share every flag the same way
An IMEI block on one carrier may not show up the same on every network or every country.
- Find My and Google lock accounts, not every radio path
Lost Mode and Find My Device protect the login and the screen. They do not replace a carrier IMEI report.
- Thieves still try to resell

What types of stolen-phone reports exist?
The right stack depends on brand and country. These are the common ones.
Lock with iCloud or Google
On Apple, use Find My / iCloud Mark As Lost and leave the device on the account. On Android, use Find My Device to lock, ring, or erase, then change the Google password.
Report it to your phone company
Ask the carrier to suspend service and place an IMEI lost/stolen block (blacklist) where they participate. You will usually verify the account and get a case number.
Report the IMEI to local authorities
File a police report with the IMEI, time, place, and description. Keep the case number for insurance and carrier follow-up.
Add the device to more databases
Carrier and police channels are the core. Extra database filings are optional support, not a substitute for Find My, the carrier, or police.
